John Winthrop Families
John Winthrop School has a diverse group of families with different family structures — working families with caregivers, stay-at-home parents, single parents, and grandparents. We recognize our privileged role in caring for children during these critical years and prioritize open communication with parents and welcome participation at any level.
Helping your child transition
You may extend your drop off or pick up any day of the week to spend time in your child’s classroom. You’ll likely find yourself participating in the day’s activities, reading quietly in the book corner, or simply watching your child interact with peers. You are also welcome to create a special time to share a hobby, special talent, or experience unique to your family’s culture with your child’s class.
Participating in the John Winthrop community
Families also have the option to serve in a variety of roles that are essential to the running of our school. Parents comprise our Board of Directors and plan and staff all major fundraising efforts including our annual fall Street Fair and spring auction. Through these events, parents help to build the relationship between John Winthrop School, the larger community, and each other.
Parents can also volunteer as class parents, forming the Parent Advisory Council. The PAC organizes potluck dinners, coffee socials, and all-school “playdates.” These experiences provide unique opportunities for enrolled families to connect with one another.
Ongoing learning
Several times during the school year evening lectures are arranged with experts in the field of Early Childhood Development, giving parents the opportunity to gain valuable insight into their child’s growth and emotional well-being.
Parents play a crucial role in making John Winthrop School a vibrant and welcoming place for children and families. We look forward to having the role of parents continue to expand and evolve.
